The 7 Chakras And Their Meanings
The chakras exist at seven points along your body, each one associated with a different set of organs and systems. It shouldn’t be too surprising that the locations of your chakras correspond with the places on your body where essential systems use a lot of energy.
For example, the one between the eyes sits around your visual center, of course, but also the frontal lobe of your brain. That location is the epicenter of your decision-making, planning and orientation. There is so much energy required in that region of your body that it makes perfect sense for it to have an energy outlet sitting in a handy location.
The same goes for the heart chakra, which you know contains so much energy that it has its own force field and emits so much electromagnetic energy that it can be measured from several feet away. You can learn more details from HeartMath.
The 7 Major Chakras
Base or Root Chakra – Muladhara
This is the 1st chakra. It is related to survival, security and is the closest to the earth, resting at the base of the spine. The colour associated with it is red. It is naturally associated with the element earth.
To keep this chakra healthy, exercises such as dancing, jogging or jumping are beneficial. You should see if your security needs are being met, and take your power to create your own security in your lives so that your world is a safe and enjoyable place for you.
It’s message is, “I exist”. Live your life proudly.
Sacral Chakra – Svadhistana
This is the 2nd chakra. This chakra is related to sensuality, sexuality and desire for pleasure. It is in the lower abdomen and it’s color is orange. Sacral chakra is associated with the element water.
Belly-dancing, loving partnerships and yoga can enhance the function of this chakra. This chakra says, “I desire”. Live your passion or dream, whatever that may be. Claim your dreams and go out and make them a reality and give birth to your dreams.
Solar Plexus Chakra – Manipura
This is the 3rd chakra. It’s colour is yellow. It is related to our power in this world. It’s natural element is fire. This is where the “fire in our belly” term derives from.
An overbearing solar plexus chakra (one not in balance with the other chakras in our system or one where our energy is solely focused) can result in obsessive compulsive control.
A third chakra, or solar plexus chakra, with a healthy flow allow us to control our destiny, feel our power and accomplish our dreams.
The message of the third chakra is “I control”. Go forth and control our own destiny and happiness!
Heart Chakra – Anahata
This is the 4th chakra. Green is the colour of this chakra and it relates naturally to love and compassion, being at your heart center.
This fourth chakra is associated with air. Healthy relationships, pets, family, even appreciation of beauty and nature enhance the health of this chakra.
The heart chakra says, “I love”. Let your heart energy flow freely in and out. Be open to receive the love that is available to you now, the free flowing love that is your birthright.
Feel the great love that we all share and that we selflessly emanate into this world. Shine the love that we are.
Throat Chakra – Vishuddha
This is the 5th chakra. The throat center or communication center is where we speak our truth in this world. It’s color is blue.
When this chakra is flowing at optimum levels, we have the ability to ask for what we need. We also reflect our truth in the world through this chakra through our communication.
Singing, chanting and breathing exercises can enhance the health of this chakra. The message of the throat chakra is “I express”.
Do not suppress our own beautiful voice. Speak our truth, sing our joy, emanate our love through the vibration of our words.
Third Eye Chakra – Ajna
This is the 6th chakra. The natural colour of this chakra is indigo. Insight, intuition, awareness and guidance are the properties of this sixth chakra.
This chakra, located between the eyebrows, says, “I am the witness”. Meditation and visualization exercises can assist the healthy flow of this chakra.
Be open to our inner guidance. Listen to our inner voice, they will assist us on the right path.
Crown Chakra – Sahasrara
This is the 7th chakra. It is the silence between the space and represents spiritual connection. It is associated with violet or violet-white light. Crown chakra located a little above the top of the head.
The 7th chakra represents union, bliss, the knowledge of being at one with all. Cosmic consciousness and peace are the frequency at this chakra. Crown chakra said “I am that I am”.

What an amazing and informative post on chakras. I get fascinated about chakras and yoga.
I think I need to realign my root chakra to begin with and then make my way up to the rest of the chakras. Do you recommend it working this way?
Thank you.
Best wishes
Janet
Hi Habib. Yes, work from the root chakra first then make the way up. Start from grounding which is very important.
In my next new blog post, I will share what are the yoga poses that integrate with each chakra. Keep connected!

What a lovely and informative article!
I enjoyed reading it and I actually learned something new. I think I need to look into my heart chakra as I’ve just came out of a bad relationship.
Thanks for this post and keep up the good work:-)
Janet
Hi Agnie. You are most welcome!
Teach you a technique since you just came out of a bad relationship. A technique to prevent any blockage of energy at the heart chakra due to this bad relationship.
Look and focus in your heart. Feel it. Accept and just feel it whatever feeling coming out from the heart without any judgement or thought. Just allow the feeling to come and then let go.
Don’t suppress or ignore the feeling. Just be there with it. It will come and go away as long as you don’t put any thought or judgement on it. This is to prevent that energy being stuck in your heart chakra as long as you allow it come out and let go.
Hope it helps you.
