Manduka started as a yoga mat and accessory brand.
Peter Sterios, an architect turned yogi in 1997. He has discovered a simple, elegantly designed black mat whose combination of firm grip and complete support revolutionized his yoga practice. He sought to share this amazing product with others in honor of the yoga masters who inspired him.
Peter chose the name Manduka in homage to his teacher and mentor, Shandor Remete, whose core practice and teaching always included the ancient Hatha Yoga pose, Mandukasana or frog.
The quality and performance of Manduka yoga mats and accessories are still unmatched in the marketplace. They are still crafted using simple, enduring, natural, and possible, renewable materials and fine attention to detail. Manduka is a company built by and for yoga teachers and their students.
They took their dedication in yoga gear and transformed it into yoga activewear that holds up for as long as your practice will. This transition happened in year 2016 and the world is only barely beginning to experience Manduka’s amazing clothing line.
Inspired by nature as the highest form of technology, Manduka clothing collection is designed using premium fabrics sourced primarily from environmentally responsible materials.
From the fibers of their being to the fibers of their apparel, a curated collection of sustainably-sourced clothing which serves their practice for as long as possible.
The result is an apparel collection not only made for you, but made for yoga.
Honoring nature as the highest form of technology, they use raw fibers whenever possible. They choose fabrics that are kind on the earth, soft on the skin and designed for performance.
They use soft, non-GMO, 100% organic cotton grown without the use of harmful fertilizers or pesticides. They also use a naturally cool, dry fabric requiring less water and fewer pesticides than conventional cotton. A man-made fiber created from sustainably-grown beechwood with added UPF sun protection.
They crafted from regenerated, sustainably-grown wood and made with a closed-loop manufacturing process that creates zero waste. They use raw materials, meet high-performance fabrics for clothing that stretches, supports and quickly wicks away moisture.
They use an alternative to polyester made in part from bio-based ingredients.
